A quick and easy refreshing summer drink made with fresh watermelon, lime juice, water, and a touch of sweetener. Perfectly chilled and smooth, it’s a crowd-pleasing thirst quencher.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (600 grams) fresh watermelon, cubed and seedless if possible
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh lime juice (from 1 to 2 limes)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) cold water
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons (1530 grams) granulated sugar or honey (optional)
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cut about 4 cups (600 grams) of fresh watermelon into cubes, removing seeds if possible.
  2. Place the watermelon cubes in your blender. Add 2 cups (480 ml) of cold water.
  3. Blend on high speed for about 1 minute until the mixture is smooth and vibrant pink.
  4. Pour the blended watermelon through a fine mesh sieve into a large pitcher to remove pulp and any remaining seeds. Press gently to extract as much liquid as possible (optional but recommended).
  5. Stir in fresh lime juice from 1–2 limes (about 2 tablespoons or 30 ml) and 1 to 2 tablespoons (15–30 grams) of sugar or honey. Adjust to taste.
  6. Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 30 minutes to chill and let flavors meld.
  7. Serve over ice cubes and garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.

Notes

Use ripe watermelon for best sweetness. Straining is optional but recommended for a silky texture. Adjust sweetener and lime juice to taste. Keep water cold to maintain freshness. Add a pinch of salt to enhance flavors if desired. Best served fresh and chilled. Store leftovers in the fridge up to 2 days and stir before serving.
