A quick and easy recipe for crispy pizza bagels with melted mozzarella, tangy tomato sauce, and toasted bagels, perfect for lunch or snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 plain or everything bagels, sliced in half
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce or marinara
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • About 24 pepperoni slices (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • A few fresh basil leaves, torn
  • Parmesan cheese, for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
  2. Slice bagels in half horizontally and arrange cut side up on a parchment-lined baking sheet or preheated pizza stone.
  3. Mix olive oil and garlic powder in a small bowl, then brush the cut sides of the bagels with the mixture.
  4. Spread about 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce evenly over each bagel half, leaving a small border.
  5. Sprinkle 2 to 3 tablespoons of shredded mozzarella over the sauce on each bagel half.
  6. Place 6 pepperoni slices evenly on each bagel half, or substitute with veggies or skip for vegetarian option.
  7. Sprinkle dried oregano and optional red pepper flakes on top.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until cheese melts and bubbles and edges are golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and sprinkle torn basil leaves and Parmesan cheese on top.
  10. Let cool for a couple of minutes and serve warm.

Notes

For extra crispiness, preheat a pizza stone. Brush bagels with olive oil instead of butter for a lighter crust. Avoid overloading sauce to prevent sogginess. Freshly shredded mozzarella melts best. Let bagels sit out 10 minutes before baking for better crisping. Broil 1-2 minutes if needed to crisp edges but watch carefully to avoid burning.
