Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Cut mozzarella cheese sticks into halves or thirds and freeze for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs mixed with parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat each frozen mozzarella stick in flour, dip into the egg mixture, and roll in the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps for extra crunch.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the coated mozzarella sticks for 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
  6. Remove mozzarella sticks with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. For the marinara sauce, heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and chopped onion, sautéing until fragrant and golden.
  8. Add canned crushed tomatoes, dried basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and sugar. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until slightly thickened.
