These jello shots combine fresh citrus juices with a spicy kick for a bold, fun party treat that’s quick and easy to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 packet (about 2 1/2 teaspoons) unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (120 ml)
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice (120 ml)
  • 1 cup water (240 ml)
  • 1/2 cup tequila (120 ml), preferably blanco
  • 2 tablespoons agave syrup
  • 12 fresh jalapeño slices per shot or 1 small jalapeño finely diced
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Optional garnish: lime zest, chili powder, or edible flowers

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 cup (240 ml) cold water into a medium heatproof bowl. Sprinkle gelatin powder evenly over the surface and let sit for 5 minutes to bloom.
  2. Heat the gelatin mixture gently over low heat or in a double boiler, stirring constantly until fully dissolved (3-5 minutes). Avoid boiling.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine 1/2 cup fresh lime juice, 1/2 cup fresh orange juice, and 2 tablespoons agave syrup. Stir until syrup dissolves.
  4. Slowly whisk the dissolved gelatin into the citrus mixture. Add 1/2 cup tequila and a pinch of sea salt. Whisk thoroughly to combine.
  5. Depending on heat preference, stir in finely diced jalapeño or place a thin jalapeño slice into each shot cup before pouring the liquid in. Pour mixture evenly into shot cups.
  6. Place filled cups in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until firm.
  7. Before serving, optionally garnish with lime zest, a dash of chili powder, or an edible flower.

Notes

Do not boil gelatin to avoid rubbery texture. Bloom gelatin before heating for smooth texture. Use fresh citrus juice for best flavor. Adjust jalapeño amount to control heat. Chill shots for at least 2 hours; avoid freezing. For easy removal, use silicone molds or warm water on plastic cups.
