A rich and creamy hot chocolate with a sweet cherry twist, perfect for cozy winter evenings or festive gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (480ml) milk
  • 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
  • ½ cup (60g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ⅓ cup (65g) sugar
  • ½ cup (85g) dark chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup (60ml) cherry syrup
  • Fresh cherries, pitted and halved for garnish
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  1. Start by pitting and halving your cherries if using fresh ones. Set aside for later.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups (480ml) of milk and 1 cup (240ml) of heavy cream. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is warm but not boiling.
  3. Add ½ cup (60g) of unsweetened cocoa powder and ⅓ cup (65g) of sugar to the saucepan. Whisk until fully dissolved and smooth.
  4. Lower the heat slightly and stir in ½ cup (85g) of dark chocolate chips. Keep whisking until the chocolate melts completely and the mixture is rich and creamy.
  5. Pour in ¼ cup (60ml) of cherry syrup, stirring until incorporated. Taste the hot chocolate and adjust sweetness or cherry flavor as needed.
  6. Remove the saucepan from heat. Ladle the hot chocolate into serving mugs.
  7. Top each mug with a generous dollop of whipped cream, a few fresh cherry halves, and a sprinkle of chocolate shavings.
  8. If you’re feeling fancy, drizzle a little extra cherry syrup over the whipped cream for added flair.
