A silky, creamy peppermint-infused panna cotta dessert perfect for holiday celebrations. Easy to make with simple ingredients and a refreshing minty twist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (480 ml) heavy cream
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • ⅓ cup (65 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 ½ teaspoons gelatin powder (about one packet)
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) cold water
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Fresh peppermint leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Crushed candy canes or crushed peppermint candies (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Pour 3 tablespoons (45 ml) of cold water into a small bowl. Sprinkle 2 ½ teaspoons (about one packet) of gelatin powder evenly over the surface. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the gelatin absorbs the water and becomes spongy.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups (480 ml) of heavy cream, 1 cup (240 ml) of whole milk, and ⅓ cup (65 g) of granulated sugar. Warm over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture is hot but not boiling (around 170°F / 77°C).
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat. Add the bloomed gelatin to the hot cream mixture and whisk gently until the gelatin is fully dissolved. Optionally, strain through a fine mesh sieve for extra smoothness.
  4. Stir in 1 teaspoon of pure peppermint extract and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Adjust peppermint extract to taste if desired.
  5. Carefully divide the mixture evenly among 4-6 ramekins or serving glasses. Let them cool to room temperature for about 15 minutes.
  6. Cover each ramekin with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, until set with a delicate wobble.
  7. Just before serving, garnish with crushed candy canes or peppermint candies and a fresh peppermint leaf. Optionally drizzle with chocolate sauce.

Notes

Do not boil the cream mixture to avoid grainy texture. Bloom gelatin in cold water before adding to hot cream for smooth panna cotta. Chill at least 4 hours or overnight for best results. Use room temperature ramekins to avoid uneven setting. For vegan version, substitute gelatin with agar-agar and dairy with coconut cream.
