This Cozy Stovetop Gnocchi Lasagna Recipe is comfort food at its finest, combining rich marinara sauce, creamy cheeses, and pillowy gnocchi for a quick and indulgent meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450g) potato gnocchi
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 cup (250g) ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, or until fragrant.
  2. Add the ground beef or Italian sausage to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with your spoon as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Once the meat is fully cooked, pour in the marinara sauce. Stir everything together and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. Add the gnocchi to the skillet, making sure they’re evenly distributed. Stir to coat the gnocchi in the sauce. Cover the skillet and let the gnocchi cook for about 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and dollop the ricotta cheese over the gnocchi mixture. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly across the top, followed by the grated Parmesan cheese.
  6. Cover the skillet again and let the cheese melt completely, about 5-7 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when the cheese is gooey and bubbling.
  7. Remove from heat and sprinkle with freshly chopped basil (optional) before serving.

[‘Don’t skip the browning of the meat for added depth of flavor.’, ‘Allow the marinara sauce to simmer with the meat and aromatics to enhance its taste.’, ‘Use fresh mozzarella and good Parmesan for better flavor.’, ‘Keep an eye on the gnocchi to avoid overcooking and mushiness.’, ‘Customize the recipe by adding vegetables like spinach, zucchini, or mushrooms.’]
